Mission
The Smart Campus initiative promotes and enables spatial data sharing within the Smith College community to increase efficiency and inform decisions that involve campus operations and activities.
Objectives
- ensure shareable data are easy to find/discover and accessible
- develop tools and systems to access spatial data
- establish best practices for generating and maintaining spatial data
- develop tools and systems that enable spatial data to be born digital
- incorporate students in creation, curation, and use of campus spatial data
Examples of Smart Campus projects
Web Maps are the underlying map document that contain map layers
Web Apps (or App) are derivatives of the Web Map with added features and widgets
- Campus Building Explorer: (find a location or learn about building history)
- Botanical Garden Explorer (filter by plant habit, date last checked, and other characteristics)
- Facilities (with Northampton City DPW – drainage network and City Parcels)
- Integrating Facilities and Botanical Garden data: Spigot Map (login required)
- Using maps for fieldwork and data collection: Storm Damaged Trees Map
