QGIS Workshop: Tues (10/27) and Thurs (10/29)

The Spatial Analysis Lab will be holding a two-part workshop on QGIS next week from 4-5pm on Tuesday, Oct 27 and Thursday, Oct 29. QGIS is a free, open-source alternative to ArcGIS. Q does not require any kind of license and is compatible with Macbooks, so it is a great tool for those who are just starting to learn GIS, those who are doing GIS research in the field, and those who are helping out organizations that couldn’t afford ArcGIS. It is designed for those who have had no exposure or limited exposure to other GIS software in the past. However, we encourage anyone interested in using Q to sign up!

In the first part of the workshop (Tuesday afternoon), we will cover spatial data acquisition and using queries to analyze a spatial dataset. In the second part of the workshop (Thursday afternoon), we will cover some of the geoprocessing tools available in Q and presenting spatial data using fundamental concepts of cartographic design.

The workshop is open to faculty, staff, and students at Smith or any of the Five Colleges, as well as non-affiliated community members. Please feel free to sign up for one or both parts of the workshop, according to your interests and availability.
