Because the brine saturated with halite has some NaCl in it, the Weight Percent Halite (relative to Brine) in a brine-halite mixture must be less than the Weight Percent NaCl (relative to H2O) for the same mixture. Always consider the ends of the axis when trying to understand proportions like "Weight Percent" of a phase or a chemical component.
