We learned today that our neighbors to the north at the Vermont Center for Geographic Information are hosting a QGIS webinar next Wednesday, Oct 21, from 3-4pm. QGIS is a free, open-source alternative to ArcGIS. Since Q does not require any kind of license and is compatible with Macbooks, it is a great tool for those who are just starting to learn GIS, those who are doing GIS research in the field, and those who are helping out organizations that wouldn’t be able to afford to use ArcGIS. This webinar will be appropriate for both GIS novices and Arc-heads who are looking to broaden their repertoire of software packages. Sign up by following this link.
Interested in QGIS but don’t have time for the webinar? Fear not! We will be hosting our own Q workshop sometime during the week of Oct 26. We’ll be posting the final schedule here and on the Smith eDigest, so keep an eye out!
