GPS Workshops for Summer Research

The Smith College Spatial Analysis Lab (SAL) will be hosting two GPS workshops to help students, faculty, and staff brush-up on GPS skills in preparation for summer work and research. Workshops are available to all, no previous experience necessary. Feel free to attend one or both workshops.

GPS Data Collection with Trimble Juno Unit:
Thursday 4/23 (Offered at both 12:15-1pm and 4:15-5pm)

Learn the basics of GPS technology and data collection using our high-grade Trimble GPS units, then go outside to collect some sample data. The Trimble units can be rented for research purposes year-round from the SAL.

 

GPS Data Collection with Mobile Device and Collector App: 
Friday 4/24 (Offered at both 12:15-1pm and 4:15-5pm)

Learn the process of data collection using a mobile device and collector app — including form creation, data collection, and data processing into a webmap. We will step outside to collect sample data. Please bring a smart phone or tablet if you have one available, if not please email at SAL@Smith.edu so that we can procure one for your use.
