Art Pop-Ups
The STEAM Team consistently facilitates diverse, engaging art pop-up events, each uniquely themed and hosted on a monthly basis. These gatherings serve as a platform for fostering creativity and exploration within our community, offering participants the opportunity to delve into different artistic themes and express themselves in various ways. It’s a welcoming space where Smith students and faculty can come together, learn, and create while enjoying the enriching experience of collaborative artistry.
Valentine’s Jewelry Craft Night – 2/12/2026
Two days before Valentine’s Day, the STEAM Team took over the Jandon Center for a jewelry-making night! The energy was high, and the room was packed with people crafting custom pieces, whether it was a treat for themselves or a handmade gift for a special someone.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a party without the snacks! We fueled our creativity with Valentine-themed cakes, cupcakes, and plenty of candy. The highlight of the night? Our legendary mascot, Pumpkin, stopped by to spread some love! 🎃💖
Halloween Lantern Making – 10/31/2025
This Halloween, the STEAM Team successfully hosted our special Halloween pop-up event! We transformed ordinary glass jars into glowing, spooookkkkkyyyyy 👻 lanterns using paint and a dash of creativity.
We embraced our inner artists, crafting customized spooky scenes, ghostly silhouettes, and grinning jack-o’-lantern faces onto our jars. Join us for our next Pop-up for snacks and more fun!
Beading Art Pop-Up – 11/11/2025
The November Beading Art Pop-Up, hosted by the STEAM team, was a great success! It offered the perfect opportunity to destress and take a creative break from the chaos of the semester.
With a wide variety of colorful beads in all shapes and sizes, we created beautiful handmade pieces, including earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and more. Along with snacks, music, and general good vibes, everyone enjoyed a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. We were delighted to see so many people connect and unwind through creativity!
STEAM Game Night – 4/16/2024
We had our very first Game Night, celebrating the near completion of the semester! It was a festive gathering filled with a variety of board games and delicious snacks, bringing everyone together for a much-needed break and lots of fun.
Paper Flower Crafting – 4/2/2024
We had a delightful crafting session to create beautiful paper flowers! We gathered around making paper flower bouquets and got ready to welcome Spring. 🌸
Love Bugs and Cards – 2/16/2024
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we gathered to craft love bugs and heartfelt cards, sharing the warmth of love. It was a heartfelt gathering that allowed us to express our love and appreciation in the most creative and personal way.
Suncatcher Making – 11/13/2023
To welcome the sun into our rooms and embrace its warmth before the cold sets in, we held a suncatcher-making session to illuminate and heat up our cozy dorm spaces.
Boo-tiful Candy Pot Painting – 10/26/2023
In preparation for Halloween, the STEAM Team held a fun clay pot painting session. We designed our own candy pots and ended up with plenty of Halloween treats to fill them! 🎃
Family Weekend 2023 – 10/13/2023
The STEAM Team hosted a family weekend event on Friday, October 13th, where students and families were invited to join us at the Jandon Center for Community Engagement for card and bracelet-making. The workshop was an extension of the craftivism efforts promoted by the STEAM Team to infuse creativity and artistry with hands-on activities.
Autumn Garland Making – 10/29/2023
To prepare ourselves and our rooms for fall, the STEAM Team organized a pop-up event for crafting autumn garlands to adorn both our spaces and our spirits.
Earth Day Keychain Making – 4/25/2023
To celebrate Earth Day (and the end of the spring semester!), the STEAM Team facilitated a Clay Keychain Making event.
Bookmark Making – 4/11/2023
In honor of National Library Week, the STEAM Team fostered a space for avid readers to create original bookmarks and adorn their books with a craft of their design.
Bracelet Making – 3/28/2023
After spring break, the STEAM Team hosted a workshop for fellow Smithies to make their own bracelets and other beaded masterpieces. In an effort to destress from “assignment overload,” students practiced keen dexterity and pattern development to distract their minds from other anxieties.
Lovely Notes – 2/28/2023
In an atmosphere of gratitude and altruism, Smithies decorated jars and constructed collages to celebrate a month of love. Whether crafting for themselves or someone they know, students took a moment to pause, reflect, and delight in a shared space of artistic expression.
