Design of a Novel Method of Mixing Clinical Samples for Blood Gas Analysis

2016-2017: In collaboration with Instrumentation Laboratory (IL), this student team designed a blood sample mixing method prior to analysis in IL’s blood gas analyzer devices. Existing approaches for mixing blood samples are subjective, potentially leading to inconsistent mixing, pre-analytic error, and inaccurate results. The goal of this project was to determine a consistent and efficient mixing method that would reduce pre-analytic error.

The team delivered their recommended method, along with experimental results and documentation of their process, to IL.
