2024-2025: In collaboration with Honda Motor Company, this student team explored innovative ways to enhance the autonomous vehicle cabin experience through immersive storytelling technology. With the shift to fully autonomous driving, the cabin transforms into a flexible, room-like environment, opening new possibilities beyond traditional automotive functions and redefining in-car experiences.
Their concept, SAGA, uses live and streamed audio content combined with multi-sensory effects, including spatial sound design and scent, to create rich, immersive environments within future Honda cabins. SAGA operates in two modes – EKHO and NEXUS – and leverages Honda’s AI assistant ASIMO alongside advanced technologies such as AI-controlled HVAC and smart auto tinting to tailor the sensory experience. The team built a large-scale physical prototype based on a Honda SUV cabin to demonstrate the immersive experience. They also developed a detailed user persona and provided design recommendations aimed at optimizing audio clarity and strengthening human connection. These deliverables serve to inspire Honda designers and engineers as they envision the future of creative mobility and cabin innovation.
