|-------- Purpose of this site:

I created that site, because I have gotten very interested in Phi Beta Lambda lately, so I decided to buy the Pampers before the baby was born, or in other words, to make the site before the organization is chartered.

|-------- Site Features:

....................Style sheets:

Each of the pages in the site use internal style sheet. I decided to make them internal, because I had a problem displaying the background image from an external style sheet. What my style sheets do is to set the colors of the different states of the links and to decorate them. In addition, I defined the properties for the "p" tag, specifying the background color, the font and the padding. I overwrite the style sheet by including a local style sheet within the td tag for the left navigation bar in each page to change the font of the inherited font from the body.

....................Navigation aids:

I have included two navigation aids for every page. One is on the left side of the text box, the other one on the bottom of each page. I also made images with the name of each page, so that the visitor knows where he/she is at at every point in time.

....................Hidden tables:

I use hidden tables in all pages to position the elements of the site. The tables include the left navigation bar and the central text box. I have tried to achieve some consistency in my site with the help of tables, because this makes it easier for a visitor to navigate the site and to reach any info he/she might be looking for.

....................Javascript:

I use Javascript in two places on my site. The first one is in the members page. It is a rollover code that I borrowed from Nick Howe. I did not use the code directly, but made some changes to it, so that I can achieve the effect that I wanted, which is to have pictures appear on a mouse over a link. That was a bit challenging, because the original code has a mouse over an image effect. What I did was to create an image with the same color as the background, so that I swap it with itself and no change can be observed on the page. So only me and the person who is reading this document know about that, which means that I have to kill you now :-) The second place where I use Javascript is in the contact page. I found a part of the code online on a site which I unfortunately did not bookmark and had trouble revisiting. But I am going to include a link to that site as soon as I spot it. I use a form to get the input of name and the email address from the viewer and Javascript to send an email.

....................Images:

As I mentioned before, I created the images indicationg the name of the page as well as the logo of Phi Beta Lambda. The logo is a link to the official PBL site. The pictures in the members site I modified to contain information about the person on each picture.

....................Links:

I have not used many links to outside of the site pages, because I do not have too much information yet about the organiation. But as I have used some texts that appear in the official PBL site, I have included a link to that site on every page to these I also have links for emailing each of the members of the organization.
