MacLeish Field Station winter star trails
Winter star trails at Smith College's MacLeish Field Station

I don't know why, but I love taking photographs, especially of astronomical objects and of animals.

I started taking lots of pictures in high school using an Olympus OM-1 35mm film single lens reflex (SLR) camera. I currently shoot mostly with a Canon 7D digital SLR camera and a variety of lenses and telescopes. Since switching from film to digital, I've been making time-lapse videos of the night sky and other natural phenomena.

I wrote a book, The Hidden Sun: Solar Eclipses and Astrophotography (1984; Avon Books). Let me know if you can't find a copy.
