Deep OCEAN Study

The Deep OCEAN study strives to examine the development of attention and memory during early childhood before children enter school (4-5). We will conduct virtual interviews to collect data on the home environment and children will participate in behavioral tasks. The study seeks to understand mechanisms behind attention and memory through a series of different tasks that focuses on executive function, attention, language, and visual processing– aspects that are foundations for school performance. Through functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), we will utilize these tasks to measure and assess how important aspects of the child’s home environment influence brain structure and function.
