Discrete Math Workshop

About

We modeled the Discrete Math Workshop at Smith College after Summer Combo in Vermont. This is a small, informal conference that begins around 10:00 and ends sometime between 4:00 and 6:00 (depending on the number of speakers). Our goal is to bring together regional combinatorialists for a day of collaboration, congeniality, and an opportunity to learn about one another’s investigations.

Coffee and pastries are available at about 9. We don’t provide lunch but can suggest (many) delicious options in downtown Northampton. With generous support from the NSF, we offer flat-rate funding for travel depending on the distance you came to get here.  Downtown Northampton has an Amtrak platform and bus station with Peter Pan and Greyhound service, and is on I-91 close to the Masssachusetts Turnpike.

Please register! If you’re interested in giving a talk, submit your title as soon as possible, and definitely by two weeks before the workshop. As soon as we have titles, we will set up a precise schedule. We can accommodate last-minute posters and audience members, but register so we have enough coffee!

We try to accommodate everyone who would like to share their work. If many people want to speak, we may request later submissions be shared through the poster session. We encourage speakers, especially senior speakers, to focus talks on questions they have rather than what they’ve already done. As always, if you have (or know of) any students who have done nice work, please also bring them with a poster. Or without…but regardless, bring students, we love to see them!

Northampton is family-friendly! We can provide childcare—please let us know in the registration form for planning purposes. The webpage also suggests things that family/friends/older children can do while you’re having fun with math.
