Resources

For students in quantitative course, Smith offers a variety of resources, free of charge.

  • The Spinelli Center for Quantitative Learning is staffed every week day with tutors for a variety of subjects including mathematics. There are lots of tables and chairs for you to work at, and if you find you need a little boost when working on a problem, the Q-tutors have many areas of expertise, from algebra to calculus and beyond.
  • The Calculus Counselor also works out of the Spinelli Center, and he holds both drop-in hours and individual appointments available here
  • The Math TAs hold drop-in tutoring hours in the evening, Sunday – Thursday from 7-9pm in the Math Forum, Burton Hall 3rd floor. These tutors work closely with the faculty teaching the introductory courses and are prepared to handle questions from all the introductory courses. Certain tutors are even designated for MTH 153: Discrete Mathematics and MTH211: Linear Algebra and MTH212: Multivariable Calculus on specific nights of the week.
  • The Department of Mathematics & Statistics also runs Calculus Training Groups (CTG), pairing interested students with a peer mentor to meet for one hour once a week to spend extra time on MTH111: Calculus 1 and MTH112: Calculus 2. Participants are expected to commit to regularly scheduled meeting times and occasional review sessions and extra workshops on study skills.
