2.7 Place Samples on the Dutchess County Geologic Map

This geologic map of Dutchess County is based on the New York state geology given in the kml file on the US Geological Survey website, with additional information from the Lower Hudson Sheet Geologic Map of the New York State Museum, and from Whitney and others (1996). Mouseover any map unit to see a brief description. Click the checkboxes below the map to show or hide additional features. Isograds marking the first appearance of minerals in an upgrade traverse are shown as dashed lines (shorter dashes where inferred). Metamoporphic zones (Chl, Bt, Grt, St, Ky, Sil, Sil-Kfs) bounded by the isograds are labeled. To see outcrop photos from the numbered locations, click on the "Outcrop Photos by Location Number" button near the bottom of the page.

The Dutchess County samples shown in this activity were all collected near one of the locations marked on the map by numbered white dots. Based on your observations of the samples, use the pulldown lists to connect each sample with a map location.
