Rayleigh Fractionation
Ci/Co = FL(Di - 1)

Di = 1.0000

Figure 9.01. Rayleigh Fractionation.

This diagram shows the concentration (Ci) of an element (i) in a liquid as a fraction of the original concentration (Co) as a function of the fraction (FL) of the original liquid remaining during perfect Rayleigh fractionation for a crystal-liquid distribution coefficient Di. For perfect Rayleigh fractionation, all of the crystals are removed as they form. To change the distribution coefficient Di, enter a number or use the slider. To follow the progress of Rayleigh fractionation for a specific Di, move the FL slider. Mouse over a red data point to see the data it represents.
