Part of this class is to develop familiarity with population health data. We will use data throughout the course with in-class analysis activities (e.g., labs) and short analysis exercises (e.g., homework). However, the project will generate additional depth – indeed, likely substantial depth by the end of the semester – of knowledge of one dataset in particular.
To simplify your choices and to maximize my ability to help your group, I have selected 6 datasets you may choose from for your group’s project. In a general sense, you could address very similar research questions with data from each survey. That said, the populations sampled, study design, data collection method, and focus of each survey differs enough that they will serve different purposes. More to the point, depending on what your group wants to docus on will steer you into different directions. I have tried to highlight some of the differences between the surveys to help make your decision. This also serves as a reference throughout the class, as these data will come up during in-class lab sessions and homework assignments.
