Clipping Signals that are too big for the amplifier's gain setting will be clipped at the top and bottom, where they exceed the amplifier's voltage range. In this figure, the arrows mark spikes that are clipped. Their tops are characteristically squared-off. The other, smaller spikes are not clipped. The remedy for clipping is to decrease the amplifier's gain so that all spikes remain within its range.
