Hello! My name is Emma Harnisch, the new Spatial Analysis Post-Bacc Fellow. I graduated from Smith just last May and still call the Pioneer Valley home, for at least a bit longer. I studied geosciences while I was a student and researched the geochemical impacts of historic small-scale mining. But I spent lots of time (and still do!) thinking about history, landscape, and environmental science. Geography and GIS, I think, fit snugly within those intersections, which is why I’m here! Talk to me about thinking through maps with a critical eye, histories of mapping, community based cartography, and science for social justice. Or about pugs and other sweet wrinkly dogs, baking extravagant cakes, and sewing with unconventional textiles. Check back to hear more about adventures with the SAL!
