The staff of the Spatial Analysis Lab is diving into blended learning to bring the Smith community a group independent study on Esri’s first MOOC. The MOOC (massive open online course) called Going Places with Spatial Analysis is offered by the world-wide leader in GIS technologies Esri (environmental science research institute) who produce the ArcMap and ArcGIS Online programs. The MOOC is a six-week course that teaches particip
ants the basics of spatial analysis in the online platform ArcGIS Online.
In the fall of 2014 Jon Caris and Victoria Beckley (of the SAL) will participate in the first offering of the MOOC to determine how best to offer it in a collaborative atmosphere. The MOOC/study will not require any prior experience with GIS, simply an interest in spatial learning and thought.
Expect to see the group independent study offered to the campus community in the spring of 2015.
