The Smith College Spatial Analysis Lab is happy to celebrate the start of another new school year. While the College looks forward to a new first-year class and a new provost, the Spatial Analysis Lab also has some new additions to highlight.
New people:
The SAL welcomes our new post-bac fellow, Victoria Beckley, all the way from Southern California – read more here.
As well as our two new lab interns – bios coming soon!
New projects:
This fall the SAL will continue to support Professor Lisa Armstrong with her SWAG class Gender, Land, and Food Movement, but this time with a new spin on the mapping components – online narrative maps (more info soon).
The SAL will also continue to support Professor and Dean Margaret Bruzelius, and take a new approach to her work, now using online story maps to help map girls adventure novels (more on this soon as well).
New gadgets:
Well, our Junos GPS units are looking healthy (pictured above), but they aren’t new members to the family. There may be some developments in the aerial department, but this information remains TBA.
New workshops:
Post-bac Fellow Victoria Beckley will be introducing two new workshop in the SAL – Intro and Intermediate Webmapping — you may be seeing a theme here.
New collaborations:
Talks with the Spinelli Center for Quantitative Studies have begun to develop a campus-wide collaborative event/contest. Keep your eyes out for developments on this front.
