The Mangiamele Lab uses behavioral, physiological, and neuroanatomical techniques to investigate the mechanisms of social communication in frogs and fish. We are interested in how sensory systems integrate communication signals to guide social behaviors, and how those sensory processes are modified by hormones, such as estradiol, on rapid time scales. We are also interested in the evolution of multimodal communication signals and the neural and physiological adaptations that underlie them.
