About Me

Dr. Alexandra Burgess (née Selbo-Bruns) completed FacultyHeadshot2
her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2014 and
is currently an Assistant Professor at Worcester State University and a Research Associate at Smith College.

Her research focuses on two disparate but related areas. First, Dr. Burgess investigates aspects of internalizing psychopathology in youth, including anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and temperament. She focuses on cross-cultural topics related to the measurement and experience of psychopathology. She evaluates the social, emotional, and cognitive correlates of psychopathology in an effort to clarify appropriate assessment practices and treatment targets for youth with internalizing psychopathology.

Second, she studies the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based treatment practices for children. Dr. Burgess is interested in the ways in which therapist training and characteristics, such as attitudes and social influences, impact treatment planning for children.
