Mathematical sculpture constructed with students at Smith College for an undergraduate
course in the Spring semester, 2000. We worked with formulas and computer
calculations to construct and weld a 2 m x 2 m (6'7"
x 6'7") metal sculpture reproducing Boy's surface, an immersion of the projective
plane in R^3 with no singularities. The sculpture is currently located in the Mathematics Department, Smith College. (Photographs courtesy of Stan Scherer.)
