PIPPIN Simulator

Link to PIPPIN simulator (opens in new window)

Unlike the circuit simulator, this one is not available to download. As a result, you will not be able to use the Save button. Take screenshots of your work as described below.

Lab Activity

Enter and run the first program found at the end of the PIPPIN User's Manual. Which lines of the program would you change to make the numbers 8 and 11 instead of 3 and 7? What would you change to make it multiply instead of adding? Try these changes out and run your program again. (You will have to manually reset the PC to zero.) Make sure it arrives at the correct answer.

Recording your Results

You cannot save any work using the applet version of the program (i.e., if you run it by pressing the button above). However, you can take a screenshot to capture a picture of the circuits you have built. On Windows, you can "capture" the contents of the active window by pressing the Alt and PrintScreen buttons simultaneously. This will place an image of the window on the clipboard. To see it, open a Microsoft Word document and invoke the Paste command. You may resize or crop the image further, if you wish. This will be useful on the homework assignments

On the Mac, to take a picture of part of the screen: Command (?)-Shift-4, then drag to select the area you want in the picture (press escape to cancel). Screen shots are saved as files on the desktop. If you want to put the screen shot in the Clipboard, rather than create a file, hold down the Control key when you press the other keys. You can then paste the picture into a document.
