My 61 pickup

September 26, 2001 - The beginning

I bought a 1946 CJ2A, which you can see here. This is the beginning of what I hope is a two year project to put this thing into a parade quality vehicle again!

I started my scheming for this back in January of this year. FIrst I decided that now that I had my Pickup more or less finished, that I really wanted to do a first class restore of another Willys. If you read the part of my site dedicated to thePickup you'll see that is a old project that I started and dragged out over a number of years. Mostly it was done shade tree style. Now that I've got the willys bug again, I would like to do a better job. I've got a garage. I've got more tools. I've got more skills. I've got more patience. I've got very little free time or money! I hope this works out OK. So tune in from time to time to see how I'm doing.

In April I found what I thought would be the Jeep I would restore. It's a 1948 CJ2A. I bought it in New York from a nice older man as a basket case. After looking at it for a few months and determining what it was missing, which was a lot. I decided I might better search for a better cantidate to fix up. This Jeep really is a much better case, so I'll base the restore around the 46 Jeep and keep the 48 in reserve for parts if I need it.

I'll grow this web site as I proceed with the restore. I have a digital camera now, so it's easy to take way too many pictures of the project! Stay tuned!

Nov,6 2001 - Stalled...

Sorry no new Willys news all summer. Too busy with family. However next spring looks pretty good timewise, and moneywise. I am actively searching for a truck bed to restore for the pickup, and the CJ2A frame is ready for sandblasting. Promise to post all updates as they happen!
