Engine Disassembly

After removing the head You'll be faced with a forest of studs to remove. These studs actually thread into the water jacket, so when they are installed they are coated with a permatex type sealer. They were frozen pretty tight on my engine.

Here's where this little weird tool is worth it's weight in Willys Points! You could do this with vise grips, but you'll struggle real hard, and probably mess one or two of them up. You can get this stud puller from Sears. This is one of those obsolete tools, that like tappet wrenches is pretty useless today, unless your working on a 55 year old engine!

This is a close up of a removed head stud and the puller. It's a 1/2" drive and very strong! You cannot break this thing, and the harder you pull on the wrench, the tighter it grips.Note: This tool, unlike visegrips, or a pipe wrench, does not bugger up the stud!

Use the same tool to remove the exhaust manifold studs.
