Using QTParted to resize existing Windows partitions for dual booting with Linux

If you would like to run both Windows and Linux on your existing PC you have a couple choices.

  1. You can install (or reinstall) windows, selecting a smaller partion size for it. You always must install wiindows first.
  2. You can resize nondestructivly you windows partition to allow room for Linux. Let's talk more about this one

QT Parted is a partition management tool. It's free and runs on Linux. The best way to run this is to create a Knoppix CD. Knoppix is a linux distro that runs from the CD, and has lots of tools including Parted on it.

  1. Boot Knoppix
  2. Open a shell.
  3. qparted /dev/hda
