Location: Offshore South Georgia
Date: 31 December 2003
Comments: Reported to be common in southern oceans and to follow ships. However, I have seen
this species only a few times and it never appeared to deliberately follow ships and usually just
flew on by with powerful wingbeats interspersed with glides. Unmistakable because of its all-dark
plumage. White chin appears to be variable in size and is not always visible in the field.
