troubleshooting
Much of the troubleshooting information contained in this section is provided to complement
the printer's own internal checking features.
- Fault tolerant print modes
- Image quality consistency
- Continuous printing
- Color emulation
- Out-of-ink detection
- Printhead end-of-life detection
Troubleshooting should be an intuitive process, in which the printer either corrects its own faults
or conveys a fault message via the front-panel display, prompting you to take corrective action. You
should therefore need to refer to these procedures only if the printer does not correct the problem itself.
help in solving problems
- To find the meaning of front-panel messages, see section
tell me about front-panel messages.
- If you know the problem is related to a certain task, first check the relevant section in this guide.
You can use the index to find specific pages related to your problem.
- If the problem could be related to your software driver, and you are using an HP driver,
refer to the driver's troubleshooting documentation and the online help in your application software.
- If the problem has no obvious cause, see
finding the source of your problem.
- If you still cannot solve the problem, see
tell me about hp customer care.
finding the source of your problem
Look at the front-panel display for messages, and refer to the page
tell me about front-panel messages.
Then test the printer:
- Switch the printer off with the power switch at the back of the printer.
- Make sure that the power cord is firmly inserted in the printer and plugged in to an outlet
that you know works.
- If the front panel displays an error message while initializing, make a note of the error message
and refer to status codes and error messages.
- Switch the printer On. When it displays READY on the front panel, try to print a Demo Print.
See how do I print the internal prints?
If this prints correctly, the problem is not with the printer. Test your computer hardware and interface.
- Make sure that you have the correct interface cable between the computer and the printer and that it is
firmly connected to the correct ports.
- Check that your printer's graphics language setting matches the requirements
of your software. Choose the
icon, then Device Setup > Lang.
- If you have changed your interface, switch the printer off and then on again before trying to print.
other sources of information
If you don't find the solution to the problem here, consult the documentation supplied with the driver
that you are using to manage the output from your software application to the printer.
For example, the online and printed documentation included in the following drivers supplied with your
printer:
- PostScript drivers for Macintosh.
- PostScript drivers for Microsoft Windows 9x/NT 4.0/2000.
- HP Designjet Windows drivers 9x/NT 4.0/2000.
