Welcome to the Research & Instructional Safety & Health website.

Safety matters at Smith College. Our safety committees and inventory and regulatory affairs unit guide us all to ensure we provide a safe environment for students, employees, faculty, and staff as well as others visiting our facilities and to help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations. This site provides resources for students, faculty and staff to perform coursework, experiments, design and fabrication, and research (including in laboratories and in the field) safely and in compliance with relevant directives.

Under the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic circumstances, extraordinary precautions must be taken to ensure the health and well being of our whole community. The College’s website has a very robust list of resources and information regarding the disease. In our own COVID-19 page we offer a few more technical resources designed to help our faculty/staff during the planning stage of a potential reopening of research/teaching in Science Center spaces.
