COMMITMENT TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

The Picker Engineering Program has always integrated environmental principles throughout its curriculum, outreach, and sponsored projects. Sustainable design in engineering was never optional, and nearly every course requires an understanding of what “green” design means and analysis of the ultimate environmental aspects of a project.

With many of its peers, Smith College has committed to improving its own position related to sustainability through conservation efforts, use of alternative fuels, improved construction and renovation practices, use of local food products, availability of ZIP cars on campus, and other efforts detailed on the college’s sustainability Web site.
