All of us in the Picker Engineering Program have a common goal: educating engineers who address human needs through invention, resources and technology.

We offer the degree in engineering science because, in the best Smith tradition, we believe that women engineers should think deeply and broadly about the effect their professional knowledge will have on the well-being of those whose trust they hold.

The Picker Program Welcomes New Faculty Member

Denise McKay will join the Picker team this fall bringing with her an expertise in renewable energy systems design and analysis. McKay hails from the University of Michigan where she was awarded the Presentation Award in 2004. A cross-disciplinary engineer, McKay has studied environmental, mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering through both research and education. Read more about her.

Director of the Picker Program is Honored

The American Ceramic Society recently elected Picker director Linda Jones as a Fellow of the ACerS. This honor is bestowed on scholars who have made outstanding contributions to the ceramic arts or sciences through broad and productive scholarship in ceramic science and technology.

VDS update Update from Torino

This summer five Smith engineering students are in Toreno, Italy, working with an international team of students on the creation of an energy efficient hybrid vehicle with the goal of a fuel economy of 100 mpg and a 95% reduction in life cycle costs.
