PROGRAM GOALS

The Picker Engineering Program Outcomes are based on the program’s educational objectives, with input from the faculty and Advisory Boards, and are consistent with Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) Criterion 3. Its assessment processes have been established to (a) ensure that our graduates achieve the Program Outcomes, and (b) develop and improve the Engineering Science program.

According to the defined outcomes, graduates of the program will have demonstrated:

A conceptual understanding of engineering science fundamentals (mathematics, science, and engineering) and the ability to apply this knowledge

A conceptual understanding of engineering science fundamentals (mathematics, science, and engineering) and the ability to apply this knowledge

An understanding of the scientific method and the ability to design and conduct experiments and analyze and interpret the resulting data

In addition, graduates will have demonstrated the ability to:

Transform fundamental engineering principles into socially informed design of a system, component, or process to meet desired needs

Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems in both a reductive and integrative fashion

Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice to solve problems

Collaborate effectively with a team of diverse individuals and on multi-disciplinary teams

Communicate effectively with diverse audiences

Recognize professional responsibility and the ethical implications of their work

Assess the impact of their work on both a local and global level within the context of contemporary issues and historical events

Appreciate continual intellectual advancement and a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
