All of us in the Picker Engineering Program have a common goal: educating engineers who address human needs through invention, resources and technology.

We offer the degree in engineering science because, in the best Smith tradition, we believe that women engineers should think deeply and broadly about the effect their professional knowledge will have on the well-being of those whose trust they hold.

Smith Announces New Engineering Degree

Smith recently announced a a new academic option: a bachelor's degree in engineering arts. “The new degree is designed for students who recognize the increasing importance of science and technology in all facets of life in today’s world yet don’t want to specifically become engineers,” said Linda Jones, director of the Picker Engineering Program. The Design Clinic was recently featured on www.america.gov. The article discusses "Smith’s attempt to fuse engineering and the liberal arts with the aim of producing technically competent professionals who engineer in a socially responsible fashion with an eye toward sustainability" with a focus on project-based learning.
