Who Should
Attend
Our GIS Workshops and Training Classes
are designed to meet the needs of Faculty, Students, and Professionals
who are leaning GIS for the first time or need to migrate to
the latest version of ESRI’s GIS software.
Ideally, you will have an opportunity to use GIS shortly after your training.
Otherwise, you should wait for another class. Generally, GIS classes
are offered during spring term, and in May during senior week.
Interterm Course
The non-credit Interterm course will be project based and students will learn basic GIS techniques. Students may bring their own project ideas to the workshop or they will be assigned an authentic campus or community based project.and includes 2 days of ESRI Authorized Training,
1 day using GPS training, and 1-2 days of project work. The course will utilize on-line coursework from ESRI as well as exercises developed by the Spatial Analysis Lab and NITLE. As the course progresses, you will be given more freedom and time to implement what you learned during the previous few days.
Additional custom demonstrations and learning opportunities are often included
to accommodate the specific needs of the students.
Why
attend a GIS course at Smith?
GIS Training at Smith College blends industry software training(ESRI's ArcGIs) within a traditional Liberal Arts College setting. Emphasis is on understanding GIS science and applying GIS techniques for problem solving. We encourage professionals to attend our courses
and interact with our students and faculty to create an active learning environment.
Other reasons to attend GIS training
at Smith:
Movies
Bring or Purchase a brown bag lunch and watch GIS movies with us during lunchtime.
Discussions
Engage in lively discussion that go beyond software training.
Students - find
out what professionals are doing with GIS and see if you have similar
interests.
Professionals - learn about faculty and student research
and how it might enhance your professional activities. We also
encourage student internships and you may just find the next great
