Detailed Forest Stand Metrics Taken from AIMS-1 Data |
Detailed forest stand metrics such as diameter-at-breast-height (DBH) canopy closure, stand height, crown bulk density, crown base height, and crown ratio, are critically important attributes to a broad range of forest management activities including fire risk and impact assessment, timber productivity, water yield, habitat enrichment and many more. To date, the only opportunity to acquire these metrics in an accurate manner was by timber cruise, which due to the logistics and labor involved are frequently cost prohibitive. With this in mind, the Airborne Imaging Multispectral Sensor (AIMS-1) was developed to acquire fine spatial resolution image and laser data from which these metrics can be extracted. |
