We are looking at the ganglion from the side. The sections move from the roots at one side to the roots on the other side. Dorsal is at the top, anterior at the right.

Landmarks:

Bundles of sensory and motor axons in the first and second roots (N1 and N2).

Tracts of axons crossing the ganglion from anterior (right) to posterior (left). These include the lateral and medial giants (LG and MG).

Commissures (DC1-DC7) of axons (circular profiles) crossing the ganglion perpendicular to the sections.

Cell bodies of neurons on the ventral and lateral surfaces of the ganglion.

Lateral neuropil (LN) where swimmeret motoneurons make synaptic connections.
