BACKGROUND
As a mammalogist, Professor Hayssen is interested in the evolution,
ecology, behavior, physiology, and systematics of all mammals. Her primary
focus is on reproduction. For instance, she has looked at how wing loading
and litter mass are related in bats, how climate is related to the timing
of reproduction in deer, and how nesting location is related to litter size
in squirrels. A secondary interest is how coat color relates to the ecology
and biology of mammals.
Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, she is also Senior of the Journal of Zoology (London).
