BACKGROUND
Professor King's research has focused on population policies, with emphasis on how policymakers and social movement activists use ideologies of nationalism, gender, race/ethnicity and class in the construction of fertility and immigration-related discourse and policies. Two of her recently published articles examine debates over immigration among U.S. environmentalists. Professor King is also co-author (with Deborah McCarthy) of an anthology, Environmental Sociology: From Analysis to Action. She is currently at work on a new project that explores socially responsible investing – namely, how individuals, non-profit organizations and some for-profit enterprises use their positions as shareowners to render firms’ practices more equitable and environmentally sustainable.
