Equipment Alarms

The following equipment is wired into the the building alarm system, i.e. Public Safety is automatically notified if an alarm condition exists. In case of alarm, the following procedure is executed:

  1. Public Safety notifies Science Center administration of alarm (C. Lagier, M. Rakas, T. Litwin, main administrative line x3800)
  2. Science Center administration investigate on premises and follows whatever emergency procedure indicated on the equipment. This typically means contacting faculty or lab employees listed. If obvious infrastructure issue (e.g. lack of power, leaking pipe) Physical Plant is called to repair. If equipment issue, service contractor is called.

If outside work hours, Public Safety will investigate on location and follow emergency procedure listed on the equipment.

Be sure to list emergency procedure directly on any critical equipment!

You need to provide information that will make sense to a Public Safety official investigating an alarm in the middle of a night on a weekend.

This should be names and contact information for whom to contact in case of failure, as well as name of service contractor (if you don't know, ask the Associate Director).

The following form can be used as a template: Equipment emergency procedure template

Temperature sensor in ceiling (NMR room is supposed to maintain a constant temperature around 65 F)

Any temperature problems will generally be repaired by Physical Plant's HVAC department.

Cold rooms

Alarm when temperature falls outside the parameters entered on cold room panel. Read dials to see what minimum and maximum temperature has been set. The digital display shows current temperature in Centigrade. Most of the cold rooms typically are set to have a temperature around 5C. Rooms also have audible alarm that can be reset on the panel.

The following cold rooms are wired into the alarm system:
- Stan Scordilis SR314 Environair
- David Bickar SR324 Environair
- Sue Haynes (communal) SR406 Environair
- Joanne Huyler Animal Care Facility Environair
