Opportunity for a “Mapathon” with Moovit

(passing along an email from Hannah Katz, who is interested in helping setup some form of “Mapathon” with Smith students)

Reaching out to you about an engaging activity for students that promotes accessibility to public transit to improve urban mobility. My company, Moovit, uses local knowledge and our intuitive platform to map a city’s, or university’s, transit system.

To assuage any concerns, this simply requires a computer and an internet connection. Zero programming experience required. We consider this a thought leadership program, which over 200,000 people around the world have engaged in. In fact, MTV recently highlighted a Moovit Mapathon with the Geography Club at the University of Maryland.

This engaging 3-4 hour event offers insight on technology start-ups, urban planning and public transit. Students will literally see the impact of their efforts by witnessing a city come alive in Moovit’s app. Plus, Moovit offers lunch and custom T-Shirts as a way of saying thank you for participating.

For background, Moovit is the world’s #1 app and data repository for public transit  with recent honors from Google as the best local app of 2016, and selected as the public transit app for Rio 2016 Olympics. Our 77 million users in 1,500 cities and 78 countries is a testament to our dedication to improve public transit, so we hope you’ll join us!

Appreciate you considering the concept, and looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Hannah Katz
