Social Justice Through Programming on Otelia Cromwell Day

Smithies in CS is hosting an hour-long Learnathon titled “Social Justice Through Programming: Creating a Website“. This is a socially conscious event for Smith College students and faculty in conjunction with Otelia Cromwell Day where teams will write programs that will make a positive difference in somebody’s life. We will teach you how to make a basic website using web development tools such as HTML and CSS. The website you will make would follow a social-justice theme to both showcase your newly-learned computer science programming skills and connect computer science with the goal of Otelia Cromwell Day — to raise awareness about issues of racism and diversity. More importantly, we want to increase participation in Otelia Cromwell Day events by making this learnathon accessible to students and faculty of all majors. No prior programming background is necessary! Please bring your laptops! November 3, 2015, 4:10-5:30PM, CC 103/104.
