Ileana Streinu

Ileana Streinu is the Charles N. Clarke Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics at Smith College and an adjunct professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has a doctorate in Mathematics/Theoretical Computer Science from the University of Bucharest, Romania and a PhD in Computer Science from Rutgers University. Her research group, the LinkageLab, engages students at all levels in Computational Geometry and Computational Biology research projects. Prof. Streinu's scholarship is rooted in Mathematics (Discrete and Combinatorial Geometry) with an emphasis on algorithms and applications in Rigidity Theory, Kinematics, Robotics, Computational Structural Biology and Materials Science.

Prof. Streinu is an inaugural Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, a recipient of the 2010 David Robbins award of the AMS and the 2004 Moisil Prize of the Romanian Academy, and was the 2018-19 Frances B. Cashin Fellow at Harvard's Institute for Advanced Study. She served as inaugural director of the Four Colleges Biomathematics Consortium (2011-2017), funded by a 1M NSF grant focused on interdisciplinary undergraduate research.
