Sinewave with Jumps
Signal:
Wavelet analysis: graphical display
- High frequency components appear at the location of the jumps
- Low frequency compoents appear everywhere, as they should
- A fourier transform would show the components but not where in time they occur
Schematic display:
Size of compoments; each line is a different scale, high frequency at the top
- For example, the d1 line shows that a very narrow wavelet will be included in the result at two locations; inverted in the second case.
- The s6 line shows that several instances of a very broad wavelet will be added in different amounts.
- This will be discussed further in the next example.
