BIOGRAPHY & RESEARCH INTERESTS


Lauren Duncan received a Ph.D. in Personality Psychology and a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies from the University of Michigan in 1995 and a B.A. in Economics in 1987 from the University of Southern California.

She teaches Psychology of Women and Gender, Seminar in Adolescent Gender Role Development, Research Methods in Psychology and the Seminar in the Psychology of Political Activism.

Her research interests are based on the following questions:

  • What motivates some people to want to change society whereas others want to keep it the same?
  • What motivates some people interested in political and social issues to act on their beliefs?
  • How do adolescents integrate community volunteer work and political activism into their forming identities?
  • What do feminist identities mean to women of different generations?

Her personal interests include reading mysteries, playing with her three young sons, hiking, swimming and other outdoor activities.
