BILL PETERSON
Associate Professor

BIOGRAPHY

In addition to teaching research methods, Bill offers courses in adolescent and adult development. His latest seminar investigates the topic of identity formation from psychological and literary perspectives. He obtained his B.A. at the University of California, Berkely in 1987, and his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan in 1993.

In recent research, Bill has been studying "generativity" -- the desire at mid-life to contribute something of worth to society. Bill also has an interest in studying authoritarian ideologies and how they direct the developmental goals of young adults. Currently Bill serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Personality.

Originally from California, Bill and his spouse find the weather in New England much more interesting; the contrasts of the four seasons and the clear air are invigorating. Bill enjoys reading and he likes old things (like old maps, paintings and movies).
