Role of Structure

The term "structure" in geomorphology includes not only the orientation of rock units but also their resistance to erosion. Geomorphic processes acting on the structure creates different landscapes. Understanding the interrelationships between process and structure allows us in many cases to determine the underlying geologic structure simply by observing the landscape.
