A liberal arts education teaches you to see the world from a variety of perspectives. Today’s engineers live and work in many different countries. They manage complex and often sensitive projects that affect individuals, communities, and entire regions of the world. They must be able to see beyond the technical aspects of a project to its full impact.
At Smith, you can choose liberal arts courses to expand your engineering degree. For example, you might want to take courses in Japanese or Chinese language, culture, or philosophy to better understand Asian nations. You might take an architectural design course in the art department, study the impact of green roofs in Smith’s unique landscape studies program, and brush up on economics. You can choose from a huge array of courses that will enrich and expand your understanding of yourself, your profession, and the world.
