Honors in Chemistry

Honors Director: Cristina Suarez
430d Thesis: 8 credits, Full-year course; Offered each year
432d Thesis: 12 credits, Full-year course; Offered each year

Requirements: Same as for the major, with the addition of a research project in the senior year culminating in a written thesis and an oral presentation including faculty questions of the honors research. In order to enter the Honors Program, a student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the major and a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. Students may apply no earlier than the end of the second semester junior year and no later than the beginning of first semester senior year. Application forms are available on the Class Dean’s website and should be submitted to the Chemistry Honors Director for approval by the Department.

Evaluation: The final honors designation (Highest Honors, High Honors, Honors, Pass, or Fail) will be based upon evaluation of the written thesis (50%), oral presentation (20%), and the GPA in the major (30%).

Tuesday, February 1, 2011 to turn in receipts for Tomlinson Fund Grants (for Faculty advisors)
Friday, February 4, 2011 for meeting with advisor and second reader to discuss Introduction and Experimental Sections and to discuss plans for the semester
Friday, February 25, 2011 for presentation of Honors Project at Chem/Biochem Lunchbag
Friday, March 25, 2011 for submission of draft of Results and Discussion Section to advisor and second reader

Friday, April 1, 2011 for signed permission form for Libraries to Mary Lou Bouley, Collection Services, Neilson Library.
Friday, April 8, 2011 for submission of complete thesis to advisor and second reader
