General Course Information

Course Description

In this museum-based course, chemistry will be discussed in the context of art. We will focus on materials used by artists and how the chemistry of these materials influences their longevity. Current analytical methods as well as preservation and conservation practices will be discussed with examples from the Smith College Museum of Art. Class meetings will take place in the Clark Science Center and in the Art Museum.

 

Class meetings

Tuesdays 9-10:50 am in the Clark Science Center (Burton 101)

Thursdays 9-10:50 am in the Museum of Art
